KATHMANDU, Feb 17: IT experts have asked bankers to secure their system from possible information security threats, saying that such risk is on the rise in recent years.

Speaking at an event organized by Office of Certification and Controller (OCC) under Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), experts said the financial sector is more prone to such threats. Senior Security Consultant Kapil Awasthi said 75 percent of the total attacks are in the financial sector globally.[break]

Controller at OCC Rajan Raj Pant said that the biggest challenge in online transaction was the identification of the person using the service.

“It is not possible to identify the person and online transaction is not safe. But unauthorized person cannot access financial transaction once digital signature is brought into use,” he added.

Minister of Science Technology Kalpana Dhamala, MoST officials, officials from the central bank and bankers attended the program.
