ICIMOD organized a special program on this occasion where representatives of national and international organizations working for women´s rights participated.[break]
At the function, Chairperson of Maiti Nepal Anuradha Koirala said the situation of women hasn´t improved as expected despite the fact that Nepal celebrates Women´s Day every year.
The stakeholders should be serious to uplift their social standard, she said.
Women should also be aware and work actively to end social and gender discrimination, Koirala, who is the CNN Hero, said.
Director General of ICIMOD Dr. Andreas Schild said women have been victims of social discrimination and domestic violence in rural areas.
All should work together for them and to ensure their rights, he said.
