Women, new faces pitted against heavyweights

SURKHET, Oct 23: Many constituencies in the mid-western region are likely to see women candidates and new faces contest against heavyweights in the November poll.



The CPN (UML) candidate Kamala Sharma is going to contest against Nepali Congress (NC) Joint General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka, who has won all elections so far. [break]



In constituency number 1 of Bardiya district, CPN (UML) Vice Chairman Bam Dev Gautam is pitted against NC candidate Bhubneshwar Chaudhary and UCPN (Maoist) candidate Bhuwan Kumar Tharu. Both Chaudhary and Tharu are new faces.



In constituency number 3 of Banke, NC President Sushil Koirala will contest against UML´s Bijaya Dhital. "Our party candidate Dhital is likely to emerge victorious as women sentiment will help draw votes in her favor," said Dev Raj Bhar, a central committee (CC) member of UML.



Similarly, UCPN (Maoist) candidate selected for constituency number 1 of Rolpa, Krishna Bahadur Mahara will contest against another new face Hit Bahadur Rokamagar of UML.



UML Secretary Shankar Pokharel, who is contesting from constituency number 4 of Dang, will be standing against Ramji Chaudhary, another new face from UCPN (Maoist).



CC member of Maoist Shakti Bahadur Basnet will contest against Deepak Jang Sah and Dambar Bahadur Singh of NC and UML, respectively, at constituency number 1 of Jajarkot. Sah and Singh, too, are new faces.



Meanwhile, NC CC member Dilli Raj Regmi will contest against UML politburo member Prakash Jwala at constituency number 2 of Salyan.
