Anju Gahatraj narrated the gruesome manner in which her husband Chandra Man, 34, had been treating her for the past one month.[break]
Anju has bruises all over her body and her hair has been chopped by Chandra Man with a sickle.
“He used to beat me once in a while in the beginning, but the physical abuse became unbearable in the past one month,” Anju said. “He tried to force me to have sex with other men and when I refused smeared salt and chilli powder on my vagina,” she added.
Anju, who cannot speak properly due to the shock, has said in her statement to the police that her husband intended to film her having sex with other men.
The couple´s landlord informed Anju´s relatives about the torture, who then took the help of police and human rights to free her. The police arrested Chandra Man from his Sri Avatar Jewelry Store that he runs in Butwal-7.
A female constable who took Anju to Lumbini Zonal Hospital for medical check-up told Republica that medical report confirmed that the victim´s vagina was peppered with salt and chilli powder.
Chandra Man´s relatives said that his first wife had left him due to domestic violence while the second wife committed suicide by setting herself on fire. The couple has an eight-year-old daughter from their mariage of 10 years.
