KATHMANDU, Feb 7: The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in Nepal has said it has exhausted all resources and will only be able to distribute half rations to the Koshi flood-affected populations this February.

"WFP has informed the ministry of home affairs, the ministry of finance, local government, donors and is in the process of informing camp authorities, and beneficiaries about the necessary adjustments to ration sizes due to a lack of funding," said a statement issued by the Deputy Country Representative of WFP-Nepal, Dominique Hyde, on Friday.

WFP has been providing emergency food assistance to more than 60,000 flood victims displaced when the Koshi River breached its embankment at West Kusaha and flowed through settlements displacing thousands of people in Sunsari district in last August.

"Nearly US$7 million of donor contributions have been utilized to sustain general ration distributions for this population," it said.

WFP continues its efforts to raise the US$5 million necessary to provide ongoing recovery support and food assistance to people affected by the flood, it added.
