"Water is our life source. We should always be careful to protect water sources around us," said priest Pandit Baijnath Devkota while elaborating on the importance of preserving water sources. Similarly, leader of Bote community, Somlal warned against intervening into natural courses. "If we fail to conserve nature, we have to bear the cost. Huge calamity falls on human when nature is interrupted," he said.
The lake which was enlisted in the world wetland site in 2003 is spread over 3200 hector of land in Bharatpur, Chitwan along the Barandabhar forest. According to Chitwan National Park (CNP), 26 species of mammals, 25 species of fish and 273 species of bird habitat are found within the lake's ecosystem.
Due to the variety of wildlife in the lake and its beauty, the lake attracts tourists from inside and outside the country. Visitors basically enjoy watching tiger, rhino, herds of deer and crocodile, among other species of wildlife, around the lake.
According to the conservation officer of CNP, Ramchandra Kandel, the lake has received quite an attention since 2003 after being enlisted into the world wetland list.
