Western Region recorded a comfortable win over Eastern Region and PLA Sports Club in straight sets. Western beat Eastern 25-11, 25-12, 25-13 and edged past PLA 25-21, 25-22, 25-17. Likewise, Nepal Police Club defeated Far-west Region in straight sets of 25-5, 25-13, 25-8.
In another match, Central Region beat Mid-western Region 25-22, 25-12, 25-13. Likewise, Eastern Region defeated PLA 25-21, 25-22, 25-17.

ANFPA´s promotion campaign
KATHMANDU, Sept 7: The All Nepal Football Players´ Association (ANFPA) has started promoting two members of the association nominated in the NSJF Pulsar Popular Player of the Year award.
The general secretary of the association Rakesh Shrestha and member Bikash Malla have been nominated for the popular player of the year award.
The players´ association collected funds from the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) general assembly on Monday. ANFA President Ganesh Thapa, AFC General Secretary Alex Susi and FIFA representative Krisant Perreira among others provided them financial support. The association also congratulated the newly-elected president Ganesh Thapa and wished for success of the new working committee.
Along with Rakesh and Bikash, Binod Das (cricket) Karishma Karki (swimming), Manju Gurung (volleyball), Pramila Rijal (athletics) and Manish Hamal (chess) have been nominated in the category. The player of the year award will be announced Thursday.
Club chess from Wednesday
KATHMANDU, Sept 7: The first National Club Team Championship Rating Chess Tournament is all set to begin on September 9 at Jawalakhel, Lalitpur. Organizing a press meet on Monday, host Himalayan Chess Club informed that preparations for the tournament have been completed.
Altogether 22 teams including two teams from the organizers will compete in the five-day tournament. The top three finishers of the event will be awarded with a purse of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively.
Macchindra Club, Kantipur Chess Club, Three Star Club, Kathmandu Chess Club, Elite Club, Makhan Chess Khel Committee, two teams from Bhaktapur, Dharan Youth Club, Pokhara Chess Club, Banke Chess Association, Chetansil Samaj, Knight Chess Club, Free Hotel Union, Battisputali Youth Club, Golden Gate College, Kanchanpur Club, Patan Jaycees, Lalitpur District Sports Development Committee, U-16 Olympia Team, Tanahu Chess Association, North Point Academy, Bukas Cum Club and two teams from the host club will contest in the tournament.
