KATHMANDU, Jan. 18: The Meteorological Forecasting Division has said the weather across the country would gradually improve in a day or two following Friday´s rainfall in various parts of the country including in Kathmandu valley.

Rainfall during this time of the year usually takes place with the change in the westerly winds coming to western Nepal via Afghanistan, Jammu Kashmir and Himanchal Pradhesh of India and reaching the mid and eastern hills of the country to take the form of rain. It has however shown no affect in eastern Tarai.[break]

Senior meteorologist Rajendra Shrestha of the Division said the rainfall today also lead to snowfall in the western hills including Bajhang and Dadeldhura. "The impact of the monsoon will continue in central Nepal until Saturday and thereby weather improvement in few days", he said.

Today´s was the first rainfall experienced by Kathmandu valley this winter. Likewise, it was also after five years that the temperature of the valley fell below zero degree celsius.

Tomorrow´s weather will remain cloudy with rain to occur at many places of the country. There are chances of snowfall in high mountainous regions with possibility of improvement in the weather from the western region towards afternoon, according to the Division.
