VOIP license through bidding

KATHMANDU, Feb 1: The cabinet on Tuesday decided to issue license to run voice over internet protocol (VOIP) - one of a family of internet technology used to make cheaper phone calls abroad - to interested parties through competitive bidding.



According to Laxman Lal Karna, minister without portfolio, the cabinet took the decision in its bid to bring VOIP under the legal system and to control present illegal operation of the service. [break]



Similarly, the cabinet also decided to permit the chairman of the state-owned Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) to hold talks with the Indian Oil Corporation with regard to laying down petroleum pipeline between Amlekhganj and the Indian border.
