Minister for Finance Barsha Man Pun inaugurated Shantinagar Vegetables and Fruits Market amid a function on Saturday. [break]
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Pun said the initiative taken by the private sector to provide essential items at lower price will benefit both the farmers and the consumers. “We are always ready to create favorable environment to the private sectors. Entrepreneurs must explore new avenues for investment,” said Pun, adding that this kind of initiative must be expanded in other districts as well.
Shyam Krishna Shrestha, president of Shantinagar Vegetables and Fruits Market, said they opened the market with an objective to provide vegetables, fruits and other commodities at affordable price. “Farmers benefit immensely from our market as they supply their products directly to our market,” Shrestha said, adding, “As middlemen aren´t involved, both farmers and consumers are benefited.”

Shrestha along with four other friends has formed a company with an initial investment of Rs 5.3 million to operate the market. The company has taken 5 ropanis of land on lease of 20 years.
“We will add more stalls when we expand the market in remaining 2 ropanis,” said Shrestha.
Along with vegetables and fruits, the markets will sell food commodities, spices, meat and fish products, products of Dairy Development Corporation, organic vegetables and fruits, and cooking gas as well,
The market will open from 5.30 in the morning till 8.30 in the evening.
