The portfolios for the two Madhesi leaders are yet to be decided as the UML and Maoists have not finalized the portfolio division between themselves, but MPRF Chairman Yadav is in negotiations with Khanal for the post of deputy prime minister. [break]
A source close to the prime minister-elect said he is trying to include the two Madhesi leaders in the first round of government formation to give his cabinet a more broad-based outlook. "This will be finalized by Sunday morning."
Asked about the possibility of his taking the oath of office tomorrow, MPRF-Nepal Chairman Yadav said, "We will join the government if there are commitments to address the issues of Madhes and to write the constitution on time.”
Likewise, TMDP-Nepal Coordinator Mahendra Prasad Yadav said a decision on whether or not to join the government will be taken after “evaluating” the situation and political developments.
“The prime minister-elect should put forth his views with regard to addressing the issues of Madhes,” Yadav told Republica.
Three other Madhes-based parties -- MPRF-D, TMDP and Sadbhawana Party -- said they would remain in the opposition and play a constructive role, following a meeting of the United Democratic Madhesi Front on Friday.
Meanwhile, MPRF-Nepal Co-chairman Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta said on Saturday that the search for an alternative to the Khanal-led government will begin on the 16th day.
Gupta argued that the Khanal-led government will not be able at any cost to accomplish the task of concluding the peace process and writing the new constitution. “On that day, the UML-Maoist coalition will be declared unsuccessful,” Gupta said at a program at Reporters´ Club Nepal.
