KATHMANDU, Jan 11: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has concluded that its unity with the Ujyalo Nepal Party (UNP) collapsed after proposals were made that even included changing the party’s name.
After the split, an RSP secretariat meeting held on Friday concluded that the unity could not reach completion because Kulman Ghising kept bringing one proposal after another, party leader Shishir Khanal said.
According to Khanal, party chair Rabi Lamichhane informed the meeting that the unity broke down after Ghising proposed adopting a new party name, appointing himself as senior vice chair, dividing electoral constituencies, and placing leaders from his party in other key posts.
RSP says the unity failed to move forward once proposals different from, and in addition to, the original agreement began to surface. Khanal said problems arose in finalizing the unity after proposals came in for positions such as senior vice chair, general secretary, other office bearers, additional secretariat members, central committee members, and even seat sharing at the constituency level.
Earlier, the two parties had reached a seven-point agreement based on shared commitments, including the Gen Z movement of Bhadra 23 and 24, anti-corruption awareness, good governance, and meritocracy.
