KATHMANDU, May 2: Confident yet reserved Nischal Maharjan, 16, walked in to Republica and lit up the conversation on his own.

This curious SLC graduate and the class topper of West Point Higher Secondary School in Thankot near Kathmandu shares some of his school memories and future plans with Republica:[break]

What memories of school will you carry with you?

I love my school’s environment. We debated among ourselves during the free time. Also, we were taught moral values at the school which helped us brush up our personalities and get better at public relations.

How have you been spending the post-SLC gap?

I’ve been preparing myself to gain admission to St. Xavier’s College although I don’t see the logic behind taking up bridge course since the college will be teaching each subject from the base itself. However, I feel that in order to get into a good college, such course will help. So I opted for it. I’m also doing computer classes.

What’s your recipe for success?

I don’t merely read my course books but try to understand what are in the books. I also participate in extracurricular activities, like poetry writing and chess.

Does your family expect more from you, or they are satisfied with your achievements?

They are very understanding and encouraging. They are happy with my progress and they let me make my own decisions. They never pressurize me.

What are you future plans?

I’ll be studying biology since I aspire to become a neurologist in the future and work in Nepal.
