The funding from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) will be used for seven life-saving humanitarian projects in the country.[break]
"Three-quarters of the way through this year, humanitarian funding for Nepal is just not adequate," said Robert Piper, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nepal.
"While the UN and its partners have been able to help hundreds of thousands of Nepalis in need of humanitarian aid, we have not been able to do enough because less than 50 percent of the Nepal Appeal has been funded," Piper added.
CERF was established in 2006 to make funding for humanitarian emergencies faster and more equitable, said the statement.
"Since then, more than 100 member states and private sector donors have contributed some $1.5 billion to the fund, which is managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)," it further said.
Nepal has received $21.6 million in allocations over the last four years.
