The issues to be settled at the ongoing central committee and politburo meetings include nomination of some five members in the party´s central committee (CC), review of the party´s performance, government performance, and the party´s role in the Constituent Assembly and parliament. [break]
"The secretariat will prepare a proposal on the steps and modalities of discussion, the decision-making process of the meetings, among others," said Gangalal Tuladhar, UML office secretary at Balkhu.
According to him, the decision was taken as per the suggestions received from the leaders in view of making the party meetings more effective and result-oriented.
Party general secretary Ishwar Pokharel heads the secretariat. Secretary trio -- Bishnu Poudel, Shankar Pokharel and Yuvaraj Gyawali -- office secretary Tuladhar and secretary of Chairman Jhalanath Khanal´s secretariat Parshuram Meghi Gurung are members in the secretariat.
He said the secretariat will hold a meeting on Thursday to prepare the proposal and the general secretary will present the draft at the politburo meeting on Friday.
At the meeting, Khanal urged the members to help the party leadership in its efforts to get endorsed its concept paper on forming a consensus government that has been distributed to other political parties for discussion.
According to a leader present at the meeting, Khanal drew the attention of politburo members toward the attempts at resurgence by former royalists in recent days. Referring to [Monday´s] gathering of royalist leaders in Kathmandu and recent interviews given by former royalties, Khanal instructed UML leaders to remain on alert.
The meeting also expressed condolence to those who lost their kin during the plane crash on Tuesday morning.
The ruling party also drew the attention of the government toward heavy losses incurred due to incessant rains in various parts of the country in the recent days demanding that the state make the rescue works and relief distribution more effective.
