“Our central committee has already passed a special decision to be open for anything for the sake of peace process and constitution drafting,” Paudel said at the special hour of the legislature-parliament. [break]
Paudel said his party is ready to quit the government to pave way for the national government but the Maoists should agree on a modality of integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants and constitutional provisions.
“But the government change would not be possible with the threat of a people´s revolt by the Maoists,” he said. Paudel also read out the UML parliamentary party´s decision urging the government to revoke the deal on Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) with India, taking into account the international custom, and national interests and security.
Also speaking in the special hour, Maoist Vice-Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha pointed out the need of national consensus to prevent the country from sliding into anarchy.
“The country is passing through a phase of revolutionary and anti-revolutionary phases. We need to forge national consensus to bail the country out of crisis,” he said. He argued that constitution drafting is still possible if the top leaders put their heads together.
Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel argued that the peace process could not make a headway due to rigid stance of the Maoist party. He said Maoists should publicly renounce violence and be ready for integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants to take the peace process to its logical end.
