KATHMANDU, May 11: Top leaders from the CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) held a joint meeting on Friday in their bid to forge a common stance on the disputed issues, mainly federalism and system of governance.

The two parties are close to agreement on the prickly issues  of constitution writing, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal told reporters after the meeting held in the peace ministry in Singha Durbar. [break]

Dahal, however, did not elaborate on terms of the agreement. He added discussion in that regard will be held with Nepali Congress and United Democratic Madhesi Front later in the day.

Dahal expressed his hope that the issues might not require to be taken to the Constituent Assembly for voting for their settlement. Apart from Dahal, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai,  UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, party leader Bamdev Gautam, among others, were present in the meeting.
