Bhusal was with her mother and daughter-in-law on the terrace of her residence when two assailants entered the house and shot dead Bhusal, district committee member of UML. [break]
The men shoved Bhusal´s mother and daughters in law inside the house and shot her in the temple and stomach, according to the District Police Office, Bardiya.
The house is located in a secluded area and there are no neighboring houses nearby. When the murder took place, Bhusal´s father was not in the house while her brothers were in Nepalgunj and Kathmandu, police said.
Eyewitnesses said the assassins spoke Tharu language when they left. A UML district committee member ruled out political motive behind the murder.
Three years ago, UML district secretariat member Govinda Pandey was murdered in the district. An underground outfit had taken responsibility for the murder. But Bhusal´s murder remains a mystery.
Police suspect involvement of family members in the murder of Bhusal, who was well-off. A police source said the murder resulted from domestic dispute.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Pyara Kharel confirmed this. "They have a lot of property. They regularly had family quarrels," said Kharel.
Bhusal is survived by her four siblings -- two sisters and two brothers. All of them are married, but Bhusal was living with her parents. Police suspect there was a family dispute as the ancestral property had not been divided.
The assassins also took away two mobile phones from Bhusal after killing her.
Police have arrested Bhusal´s brother Partha and another relative for interrogation.
