UML discussing party statute flaws

KATHMANDU, June 26: Ruling CPN-UML is holding a two-day national-level meeting of the party starting July 22 with a view to receiving feedbacks from its members nationwide in connection with settling some flaws in the party´s statute.



The meeting will come up with a proposal and later that will be discussed at the standing committee and the central committee meetings. Finally, the three-day meeting of the council of national representatives scheduled to start from September 16 will take final decision about the amendments to the statute.[break]



The UML leaders decided to hold the meeting as the party members faced seniority disputes in the district, zonal and local levels while organizing party programs and events.



"We have been receiving reports from the local chapters that they have confusion whether the district chairman is senior than the party´s national council representative or vice versa," said a UML leader, preferring anonymity. "We decided to hold a national-level meeting as we found similar other disputes due to lack of clarity in the party´s statute."



According to the leader, they found several flaws in the statute mainly after the party adopted collective leadership in all the levels and organizations of the party after the latest general convention,.



All chairmen from the district chapters, zonal coordinators and secretaries and heads of all 18 departments, among other leaders, will attend the meeting. They are suggested holding discussions with the party cadres in their respective districts and departments on the matter before attending the meeting.
