The party Chairman and Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal called the meeting in the hopes of getting consent on some nominees from the party´s top body as he desperately needs to give full-shape to his eight-member cabinet.[break]
"Though the main agenda of today´s meeting was to nominate candidates for the ministerial berths, the meeting concluded without any deliberations on the issue as some of the top leaders had time constraints," the party secretary Shankar Pokharel told Republica.
At the meeting, former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal briefed the leaders about progress made in the talks with other political parties for making the current government a broad-based coalition by including the Nepali Congress (NC) and other Madhes-based parties.
Nepal said that the NC and some Madhes-based parties were unwilling to join the government.
The prime minister has failed to give full shape to his cabinet even after three months since he was elected prime minister on February 3.
Only three leaders from his own party and four from the largest coalition partner UCPN (Maoist) have been appointed ministers. Both the ruling -- UML and Maoist -- parties have failed to nominate new ministers while two Madhes-based parties -- Madhesi People´s Rights Forum and Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party-Nepal -- are ready to join the government once the row over the number of ministries to be shared is settled.
Failing to resolve the UML-Maoist row over heading the home ministry, the prime minister himself has been looking after the home portfolio.
