A Standing Committee (SC) meeting held at the party head office on Sunday took the decision to this effect.[break] “The SC meeting decided to put in more efforts for forming a consensus government,” said party secretary Yubaraj Gyawali.
The party´s all-powerful body, the CC, will decide whether to field its own candidate or support a leader from any other party, he said.
The UML is a divided on the issue of leading the new government. The party´s establishment faction is for forming a new government led by Chairman Jhalanath Khanal with support from the Maoists and other parties but the other faction led by Prime Minister Madhav Nepal and KP Sharma Oli are for supporting Nepali Congress (NC) candidate so as to keep the NC-UML alliance intact.
