A dissident faction of the YFN led by its Vice-chairperson Jhapat Rawal boycotted the recent meetings and gatherings of the wing accusing YFN Chairman Mahesh Basnet of running the organization by sidelining the dissidents. [break]
The party´s top brass invited the youth leaders from both the establishment and dissident factions and listened to their arguments. Party chairman Jhalanath Khanal and leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and KP Oli and other standing committee members were present during the discussions.
YFN Chairperson Basnet, Vice-chairperson Niru Pal and General Secretary Rajiv Pahari from the establishment faction and vice-chairs Rawal and Surya Dhakal and secretary Naresh Shahi participated in the discussion with the senior UML leaders.
Pahari said the party leaders invited youth leaders just to enquire about the "minor disputes" seen in the organization of late.
"It was basically a reporting from both the sides from the [youth] organization about the recent disputes. The leaders just listened to arguments from the two sides," said Shahi. "They [party leaders] are yet to reach any conclusion." According to another youth leader, the dissidents had argued that they had to boycott the meetings as "Basnet tried to run the organization arbitrarily and against the YFN´s statutory provisions and system."
Pahari argued that the mother party can´t take any decision with regard to settling the dispute "because YFN is an autonomous wing".
