Top police officials told Republica that they feel almost certain that the outfit is behind the incident even through the group, in an emailed statement signed by Pravash, peace talks committee coordinator, and Muktidata, general secretary of the outfit, refuted any involvement. A person named Bishwo Kranti, who identified himself as coordinator of UELFN, had phoned some media outlets to own responsibility for the incident. [break]
The suspicion of police has been increased as persons identifying themselves as office-bearers of the outfit have been at large since Monday. Interestingly, even those whose cell phone numbers were mentioned in the emailed statement for media contact are not available.
An emergency meeting of top security officials held at the Home Ministry Monday afternoon had formed a four-member probe panel headed by Deputy Inspector General Upendra Kanta Aryal, who heads the Central Bureau of Investigations. The other members of the probe are SSPs Devendra Subedi and Kedar Man Singh Bhandari and SP Subodh Ghimire.
Sources said over 50 police personnel are directly involved in the probe committee’s work and an additional 100 personnel are being mobilized in support.
The committee held three meetings to expedite the investigation and divided the work such as investigation, analysis and operation. Sources said police interrogated a number of persons, Tuesday.
The three killed in the blast have been identified as Krishna Tamang, 34, Man Bahadur Tamang and Bir Bahadur Lama, 65, of Baireni VDC, Dhading district, according to police. The identity and whereabouts of only two were known as of late evening, Monday.
