At a talk held with the government dialogue team headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa, the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP) Chair Mahanth Thakur and Hridayesh Tripathi inquired of the mandate of the government team.
"They reiterated their earlier demands of releasing those arrested during the Tarai-Madhes agitation, withdrawal of the cases, treatment of the injured and declaration of those killed as martyrs," Minister without portfolio, Ramjanam Chaudhary, told the National News Agency (RSS).
Minister Chaudhary, who is a member of the government dialogue team, said the Madhesi leaders Thakur and Tripathi insisted on creating an environment favorable to negotiations.
The meeting ended with the decision to sit again for another round of talk as UDMF dialogue team members Laxman Karna and Lal Bahadur Raut among other members are outside of the capital city. The negotiations will start again after the UDMF dialogue team members regroup.
The first meeting held with the dialogue team after the formation of the incumbent government saw introduction among the members and usual discussions, said Tripathi, adding that the UDMF team also inquired of representation from Nepali Congress.
"We asked of the mandate given to the dialogue team as delineation of the provincial borders is the prime subject on political terms," Tripathi stressed. He said the UDMF pressed for meaningful talks.
According to him, the government dialogue team assured of including the representation from Nepali Congress in the next meet.
The government has formed a five-member dialogue team under the coordination of DPM Thapa to renew negotiations with the agitating Madhes-centric political parties. RSS
