In a meeting with the NHRC officials on Monday, the leaders denied the involvement of their cadres in the acts of vandalism and urged the constitutional body to investigate such incidents.During the meeting, the NHRC Chairman Anup Raj Sharma had said that the commission was taking the incidents very seriously and reiterated that police has no right to shoot at protestors.
The UDMF leaders had also requested the commission to direct the government to stop excessive use of force against protestors. They claimed that the police was using live bullets targeting the chest and the heads of protestors and beating general public not involved in protests.
The leaders had also drawn the attention of the NHRC toward the possible disruption of social harmony if police continued to use excessive force and the demands raised by Madhesi leaders are not settled in time.
NHRC Chairman Sharma urged the leaders to find solutions through dialogues.
In reply, the Madhesi leaders argued that the government has not taken their agendas seriously and that it has been calling meetings without any agenda to discuss.
Sadbhavana Party leaders Laxman Lal Karna and Manish Kumar Suman, Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) leader Ashok Kumar Rai and other UDMF leaders were present at the meeting.
Meanwhile, FSFN Chairman Upendra Yadav urged the protestors to make arrangements for undisrupted mobility of ambulances, hearse and fire engine and vehicles carrying medicines as well as that of press, diplomatic missions and human rights organizations.
Issuing a press release on Monday, Yadav urged protestors to continue the struggle but asked them to maintain restraint.
On the same release, he alleged the government of plotting to incite communal violence by exercising brutal force rather than addressing the ongoing agitation.
