KATHMANDU, Jan. 1: The UCPN-Maoist has demanded that the government take stern action against the accused, saying cases of violence against women (VAW) have increased of late in different places across the nation.

Issuing a press release, Spokesperson of the UCPN-Maoist, Agni Sapkota, called on the government to take stern action against anyone involved in violence against women and to provide rightful compensation to the victims.

Stating that different heart-rending incidents like killing by setting somebody on fire and rape remind one of medieval barbarism, he urged one and all, including the government, civil society and intellectuals to contribute towards checking such incidents.

The press release also calls for forming a high-level probe-committee to provide compensation to victims and to carry out investigation into VAW cases.
