BIRGUNJ, Sept 9: Chairman of the National Madhes Samajbadi Party Sharat Singh Bhandari has accused the UCPN (Maoist) of conspiring to impose totalitarianism in the country.

Speaking at a news conference organised by the Madhesi Journalists Society, Nepal, Parsa chapter on Sunday, he claimed that the incumbent coalition government was responsible for pushing the country towards constitutional and political crisis.[break]

Only fresh election to the Constituent Assembly ( CA) is the best alternative for defeating totalitarianism, he said, and added that drafting of the federal democratic, republican constitution was not possible just by reviving the dead CA.

He further said the coalition government of the UCPN (Maoist) and the Madhesi Front wants to lengthen its stay in power in the name of federalism.

Underlining the need of holding all-party talks on the disputed issues in the constitution drafting process and forging a consensus among all the political parties, he said only the formation of a national consensus government could give a way out to the nation from the existing crisis.

Leader Bhandari said equal rights to the people of all castes and communities and establishment of a discrimination- free society is the main agenda of the party.
