U-18 basketball team leaving for India Thursday

KATHMANDU, Feb 21: Nepal U-18 men´s team is all set to participate in the FIBA Mid Zone qualifying round to be held from February 24-26 in New Delhi, India.



Nepal team that will compete against India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka for the single spot qualification is leaving the country on Thursday.[break]



The qualified team will participate in the 22nd FIBA Asian Championship scheduled for June 25-July 2 in Mongolia. Nepali U-18 team has been undergoing training for the tournament for last one month.



Former Nepal national team player Rabindra Man Maharjan who has been training the team members is confident that the team will perform well in the tournament. “India is the strongest team in the qualifying round and we will give a tough fight to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.”



Maharjan added he is aware of the senior team of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.



“Some of the players in the squad have already participated in international tournaments. We stand to benefit when we play against them,” said Maharjan adding, “We have talented and tall players in the squad and hope better performance from them."
