Police had arrested Kalsang Dondup, 32, and Tashi Dawa Lama, 21, during demonstrations by Tibetans in the capital on October 1. District Administration Office Kathmandu had sent them to 30 days´ prevention detention on October 2, acting on a complaint lodged by the Metropolitan Police invoking the Public Security Act 1989.
The five days´ deadline for furnishing the reason behind their detention was to end on Monday. Dondup and Lama were released from Bhadragol jail, Dillibazzar. "The government did not appear to approach the court as its action was illegal," said advocate Govinda Bandi, who pleaded on behalf of Dondup and Lama.
Last year five Tibetans were freed on Apex Court order in a similar case.
