Organizing a press conference, Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Office (MPCO), Ranipokhari made public Hira Bahadur Thapa, 32, of Sailung-6, Dolakha, and Rajendra Khadki, 34, of Lalitpur. Thapa was arrested from Tahiti, Khadki was detained from Pulchowk.
SSP Narayan Singh Khadka, spokesperson of MPCO, said that they were spreading rumors of an impending earthquake while wandering around the valley under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. Police arrested them after complaints were made by the public about their misbehaviors."Khadki was wearing a wig and wandering around various places shouting that a huge earthquake will reoccur this evening. We also found marijuana on him," said Khadka.
He said they are under investigation to find out if there is a group involved in spreading panic. "We are also investigating if anyone has vested interest in spreading rumors," added he.
MPCO informed that they will be charged under public offenses. Authorities have urged the public to report if any person is found spreading such rumors.
