Two minors murder another

DHARAN, August 6: Two street children have killed one of their friends while swimming on Saturday morning at Dharan. Suraj Chaudhary, 12, of Damak-11 and Prem kumar Rai, 8, of Dharan-15 murdered Karan Magar, 8, of Dharan-12.



Both culprits have been arrested by the police. Rajendra Bista, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the Area Police Office, Dharan in an press conference informed of both culprits admitting to their crime. [break]



All three were street children. According to the police, the incident took place on early Saturday morning, while all three minors were swimming and playing by pretending to drown each other in the nearby Seuti River.



During the game Magar died while Chaudhary asked Rai to bring a broken bottle and slit open Magar´s stomach, a crime which they both have admitted to, informed DSP Bista.



After the murder both of them carried Magar´s body to Shukrapath and threw it at a secluded place.



Locals discovered the body at noon and informed the police. Since both the culprits are minors below the age of 16, the court will decide on whether to send them to a rehab center or not, said DSP Bista.



Police are further investigating the incident. Shakuntala Subba, Executive Director of UPKA Nepal has stressed on the need to send these children to a rehab center and also pointed on the need to focus on the psychological state of the children´s mind.
