Two held with Chinese yuan

SINDHUPALCHOK, Aug 20 : Police on Monday arrested two people with over 106,650 Chinese yuan.



Wandi Lama, 49, of Chhekendar VDC-6 Gorkha was arrested after a team of Armed Police Force found carrying the money. Lama had hidden in the money in his coat.[break]



The police team arrested Lama and the driver of his vehicle Surya Bahadur Tamang during a regular vehicles check at Andheri of Sindhupalchowk along the Araniko Highway. Police became suspicious after Lama appeared reluctant to get off the vehicle (Ba 1 Ja 7727) bound for Nepal-China border.



DSP Bishwa Karki said the seized currency is in denominations of 10 and 50 yuans.



Lama has said that the money was borrowed from his Chinese friend and he was going to return it. The driver told the police that Lama had hired the jeep to go to China border from Kathmandu for Rs 4,500 fare.



Police have handed over the two and the money to the Department of Revenue Investigations. Carrying foreign currency is a punishable offense.
