KATHMANDU, April 6:  The Tribhuvan University (TU)  has set the date of new Free Students Union (FSU) elections for May 27 on Saturday.

A meeting of TU held this morning made the decision to this effect, Guna Nidhi Neupani, Rector at TU informed.[break]

Earlier, TU was failing to hold FSU polls since 2011 following the dispute on electoral system as 14 student unions were advocating a proportional electoral system, while the three others had been lobbying for the continuation of the simple majority system. The CPN-UML-aligned ANNFSU had opted for a mixed system.

The special senate of TU on Friday had amended the regulation paving the way for holding the FSU election as demanded by the student unions affiliated to various political parties.
