CHITWAN, JAN 15: After the Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), a newly set-up university, didn´t allow the Tribhuvan University (TU) from conducting entrance exam for admissions in the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS) at Rampur Agriculture Campus, the Tribhuvan University (TU) has decided to conduct the entrance exam at Padma Kanya Campus, Kathmandu on January 18.

The Rampur Agricultural Campus has been alloted to the AFU but TU has yet to hand over the campus.[break]

Earlier, the entrance exam for admission in IAAS was scheduled for December 12-14 but it was cancelled after AFU officials created obstruction saying that they will not allow TU to administer admissions for the AFU campus.

The Agriculture and Forest Act 2010 endorsed by parliament on June 17, 2010 to establish new universities envisions that the TU has to hand over the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Chitwan, and the Institute of Forestry Campus, Hetauda, to the AFU. But the TU authorities are reluctant to hand over the property, AFU officials said.

The hesitation of the TU to hand over the property can drag the future of students toward uncertainty, said Ramesh Kumar Piya, coordinator of a pressure committee formed for the operation of AFU.

"As the property hasn´t been transferred, we lost last year´s budget of Rs 60 million and similar situation could happen this year as well," added Piya.

The pressure committee will use force and vacate the property if the TU refuses to hand over the campus, said Piya.
