Troubled driver no stranger to brushes with law in past

KATHMANDU, Aug 8
: The inebriated driver Biplab Man Singh whose car crushed to death six pedestrians on Thursday has been found to have had several brushes with law for his unlawful activities in the past.

According to police records, Singh was arrested along with with two other persons with khukuri near Pulchowk in the third week of Asar (July 2008). The police had then booked him under Public Offense Act. Singh was subsequently released on a bail amount of Rs 28,000. The case has not been settled yet. [break]



A year before that, he was also arrested for possessing drugs. He was released on bail, after paying Rs 20,000.



Singh´s detention was extended by the Kathmandu District Court for five more days as demanded by prosecutors. The car that the youth was driving killed five Indians and a Nepali citizen. One person was injured who is undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital, Bansbari.
