KATHMANDU, March 9: For those women bitten by the travel bug, here’s something refreshing and fun.

Announced by SherpaShah, who define themselves as travel architects, the ‘Why I Travel’ challenge invites all ‘individuals who identify as female’ to take part in this contest which will facilitate solo travel in Nepal.

According to the rules of the competition, interested women should take a photo from their recent travel and post it with a caption stating why they travel and where they would like to go next.

The 10 photos with the most number of votes will be given the opportunity to interact with SherpaShah’s network of travelers. Then the 10 women will work on their next trip, planning it, making a schedule, drawing a budget, etc.

Five applicants from the 10 women will be chosen on the basis of the level of adventure and challenge in their trips. The final winner will be selected after the last round of voting.

The prize money for the trip is a minimum of US$100 but will be higher as per the travel plans of the traveler. The winner will have to travel alone to meet the challenge.

Pemba Sherpa of SherpaShah says, “We want to promote solo travel as an empowerment tool for women. We’ve received good feedbacks from women who are passionate about travel but have restrictions at home or financial issues.”
Sherpa adds that the team wants to go beyond the usual adventure treks and temple visits, and encourage people to have different kinds of travel experience.

To be part of this amazing challenge, put up your photo and caption before March 31. For more information and where to post your pictures, visit the SherpaShah’s page on Facebook.
