Transport strike called off

KATHMANDU, Aug. 18: Transport entrepreneurs have called off nationwide transportation strike letting the vehicular movement go smoothly from this morning.



The agitating side agreed to call off their strike after the talks held with the representatives of Ministry of Transport and Management, Finance Ministry, Ministry of Commerce and Supplies and Home Ministry concluded positively at 3.30 AM today. [break]



It took more than 18 hours for them to reach an agreement to bring the vehicles back to street.



The talks took place in a friendly environment and the decision to call off all types of bandh and strikes unanimously, informed Assistant Spokesperson at Ministry of Transport Management, Krishna Hari Pushkar.



All types of public vehicle services has come into operation from this morning as per the agreement reached between the two sides, he further informed.



National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, Federation of Nepal Truck, Tanker and Transport Entrepreneurs and Federation of Nepal Petroleum Transport Entrepreneurs have announced the indefinite nationwide transport strike to pile pressure on the government to have their 41-point demands addressed.



Normal life across the country was affected on the first day of transport strike yesterday.
