Feeling humiliated after being forced to apologize just for performing their duties, all of them in protest took off their uniform in public. [break]They said they were extremely demoralized after having to apologize and wanted to resign.
"Our dignity was hurt," traffic police inspector Purna Bahadur Bhandari said. "We cannot do our duty under such circumstances."
On Friday morning, traffic police had detained an "on test" motorcycle owned by Ganesh Nepali, a Ghorahi town committee member of the YAN as he was riding without a helmet. Within an hour, Bibek Shrestha, a secretariat member of All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) reached the traffic police office to free the motorcycle.

Shrestha said traffic police roughed him up when he asked them to free the motorcycle. However, inspector Bhandari rubbished Shrestha´s allegation. As tension grew, ANNFSU members halted transport service till 3 pm.
A senior police officer who reached the spot had asked inspector Bhandari and his subordinates to apologize in order to diffuse tension.
