Tourist arrivals up 14.3%

KATHMANDU, May 2: Tourist arrivals to Nepal via air in the month of April increased by 14.3 percent compared to arrival figures of the same period last year.



According to figures released by Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a total of 59,415 tourists visited the country in April. The arrivals from South Asian region increased by 35.4 percent helped by whopping 44.5 percent rise in arrivals from INdia. [break]



However, arrivals from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka declined by 12.9 percent and 41.2 percent respectively.



Similarly, the Asian segment excluding the South Asia region saw a rise of 16.7 percent with almost all the major markets showing positive trend. Arrivals from China recorded a robust growth of 42.9 percent.



Similarly, arrivals from Europe recorded an overall positive growth of 3.2 percent. A total of 19,286 from Europe visited Nepal during the review period.



Total tourist arrivals via air over the first four months of 2012 increased by 23.1 percent to 207,961, compared to arrival figures of the same period of 2011.
