Top UN official meets DPM Mahara

KATHMANDU, April 20: Deputy High Commissioner of United Nations for Human Rights Kyung Wha-Kang met Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Information.



During the meeting held in the Maoist headquarters in Perishdanda, the duo discussed the ongoing peace process, constitution writing and human rights activities in the country, said Deputy Prime Minister Mahara talking briefly to media persons after the meeting.[break]



He also said that Kang, in the meeting, enquired about the latest political condition, progress in constitution writing, human rights condition and formation of the proposed Truth Reconciliation Commission and National Reconciliation Commission.



Reporters were informed that the duo discussed the extension of the tenure of OHCHR - Nepal



On the occasion, Mahara stressed for continuing the UNHCR´s presence until the conclusion of peace and constitution writing.



The United Nations established OHCHR-Nepal in 2006 following the request from the Government of Nepal and various political parties. It has been monitoring and evaluating the human rights situation since then.
