Top rank men cruise to second round

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Top ranked players easily booked their berth in the second round of men´s singles event in the ongoing Seventh Nation-wide Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament at the Armed Police Force (APF) Headquarters Halchowk, Kathmandu on Monday.



Top ranked players Bikash Shrestha, Sajan Krishna Tamrakar, Ratnajit Tamang and former No 1 Pashupati Paneru all entered into the second round of men´s singles.



Nepal Police Club´s (NPC´s) Shrestha and APF´s Tamang received walkover from their opponents in the first round. [break]



Meanwhile, APF personnel Tamrakar eased past Dil Bahadur Dhami of Kanchanpur 21-9, 21-11. Paneru from Kailali thrashed Yog Malla of Nawalparasi 21-5, 21-7.



Likewise, Bibek GC of Baglung and Dipesh Dhami of the hosts won their respective matches of men´s singles on Monday.



GC had a comfortable 21-12, 21-14 win over Madhav Prasad Tiwari of Sindhupalchowk and Dhami saw off Umesh KC of Baglung 21-12, 21-10. Rajendra Khadka of Kathmandu beat Datta Thapa of Sindhupalchowk 10-21, 21-17, 21-18 and Suresh Shrestha of Chitwan had a hard fought 21-9, 19-21, 22-20 win over Dipak Ghimire of Jhapa.



In the same event, Bishnu Katuwal of Nepal Police Club (NPC) eased past Anand Gurung of Nawalparasi 21-15, 21-5, Sahadev Khadka of Kailali thumped Santosh Khadka of Aadarsh School 21-13, 21-17 to make it through to next round.



Similarly, Rajan Siwakoti, Bishal Pradhan, Irfan Ansari, Indra Mahata, Devendra Khadka, Sri Prasad Dhimal, Damodar Khadka, Basanta Bajracharya, Bivek Shrestha, Sanjiv Khadka, Tulsi Mahara, Ramsingh Chaudhary, Raju Maharjan, Pratik Shrestha, Rahul Gupta and Surbir Sthaphit got walkover.

In veteran´s double category of above 45 age group, Anup Thapa and Hari Prasad Shrestha of APF teamed up to beat duo Prem Aier and Birendra Lal Shrestha of Kathmandu 21-9, 21-9 while pair of Bhisma Kanta Aryal and Devendra Kumar Subba received a walkover to enter second round.



Similarly, pairs of Ram Bahadur Chand and Sunil Khetan, Basant Nembang and Mani Kandangwa, Pushpa Tamrakar and Suresh Chandra Shrestha, Shiva Rai and Mohan Rai, Naresh Tamrakar and Bishnu Lal Shrestha, Min KC and Ramesh Prasad Kharel, Iman Singh Gurung and Pushpa Shrestha as well as Man Bista and Keshar Jung Karki won their respective matches.



In men´s double, pairs of Rakesh Singh and Sudeep Budhathoki, Raju BK and Deepak Ghimire, Rajan Paudel and Binod Adhikari, Ranjit Tamang and Indra Mehata, Aakash Chhantyal and Tek Sunuwar as well as Kanchan Thagunna and Shahdev Khadka won their respective first round matches.
