The bus (Lu 1 Kha 4958) traveling from Kathmandu to Tamghas met with the accident immediately after passing Tansen bazaar.
The bus veered off the road and took a 50-meter plunge, while letting another bus from the opposite direction pass, Deputy Superintendent of Police Govinda Thapaliya said.
Those with minor injuries managed to get out of the windows after the bus landed on the ground. Children and people with disabilities were among those injured.
The police and locals began rescuing the passengers immediately after the accident.
Though there is a government hospital close to the accident site, the injured were taken to Mission Hospital that is a 10-minute drive and Lumbini Medical College that is a 20-minute drive from the accident site. The decision to take the injured to these hospitals cost Gharti´s life.
The government hospital cannot treat more than three emergency patients at a time owing to inadequate staffers and medical equipments.
