There will be a plethora of artists, displays and contests, informed Bijay Shrestha, one of the organizers.
He added, “It will not only provide platform for artists to show off their work but also promote exchange of information and educate people about different designs and safety.”
It’s not just about tattoos and business. “Through the event we are trying to spread awareness about the art,” informed tattooist Mohan Gurung, one of the organizers, who maintains that hygiene standard must be set with so many tattoo studios mushrooming in the recent times.
Artists, local and international, can square off against each other at the convention.
There will be contests and winners will be declared at the end of the day. Along with competitions, the convention will offer seminars for artists, which will cover topics like how to make more realistic portraits, wildlife, and landscape by Andrea Afferni, Italian tattooist, on April 23.
A total of 57 tattoo artists are gathering for the convention. The venue will be declared no smoke, no alcohol zone, and all children under the age of 16 have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
“Tattoo art is generally associated with rebel movement and anti-social norms, which is not true,” say the organizers. According to them, misbehavior of any kind won’t be tolerated and intoxicated people will be barred from entering the venue.
Other highlights of the event include music concerts by Murchunga on Friday, Rock Sitar on Saturday and Kutumba on Sunday.
The organizers also informed that traditional Tharu tattoo work will also be showcased during the three day convention.
Throughout the event, Nepal Red Cross Medico will be on standby to assist in case of any emergency.
The event will kick start 11am onwards on Friday, and 9:30am onwards on Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets are available at all tattoo parlors in town and are priced at Rs 200 per day and Rs 600 for all three days, including special privileges.
