Samir is currently in his 6th semester of Bachelor’s in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Pokhara University, and he is focused on completing his course. With plans to open his own software company in the future, it is no wonder that his hobbies are “web surfing, blogging, making websites and programming.”[brek]
How did you get into web-developing?
I was in class 9 when I discovered the amazing feeling Google gave me. It answered all of my queries. This interested me and then slowly my interest developed into something more. It’s my curiosity and dedication that have taken me to where I’m today. Now, I’m a web developer. I help different websites grow. It includes wapnepal.com, scholarshipnotice.com, giftofnepal.com. It’s been six years now, and I still enjoy doing what I do. I started it as a hobby and it’s great that it’s working. Doing something you’re interested in and being paid for it is always wonderful.
In spite of being very young when you started, how did you manage to run your business and continue with your studies?
I’m more of an entrepreneur. I like doing new things. Previously, I used to run my business single-handedly and had to work hard to maintain a good balance between studies and my work. These days, I have friends who assist me. They work on hourly basis and I pay them. I hire people, depending on the requirement. At present, I have two programmers and page designers working for me. Their hard work and dedication inspire me. They have definitely made my work easier.
After six years in the field, do you think you’ve achieved success?
Success is a relative term. When I look at my counterparts here in Nepal, I really feel I’ve done something. But when I think globally, I feel I’m far behind.
How important do you think it is for youths to be financially independent?
While I personally think it’s really important, this is something that we learn from economic cultures abroad. Our country should provide such environment for youths here, too. That way, we learn about the importance of being independent, and learning to earn and manage our own money. And our country can really use the economic growth that’s bound to happen as a result of this. I also would like to add that I ask my parents for pocket money sometimes. After all, everyday is not Sunday!
