The organizers have targeted to collect 15,000 books, magazines, guide books and other library resources to be distributed in two schools - Panchdev Higher Secondary School and Shree Mastho Saraswoti Secondary School in Kalikot, Karnali. [break]
With 524 students in the primary level, 403 students in the secondary level and 446 students their higher secondary level, the book donation campaign will help a total of 1,373 students in Panchdev Higher Secondary School and 406 students in Shree Mastho Saraswati Secondary School.
“The schools there requested us to help them with the provision of course books and materials since the Government failed to provide the schools and it was hampering the education of the students,” explains campaign manager Amulya S Shrestha who is also the current Vice President of Rotract Club of Lalitpur. “Thus, we took up the initiation,” he says.
Though a library is in existence in these schools, there are very few books available. When even the basic course books have not reached the students yet, the desperation level is increasing.
“We encourage people to donate course books but we also want fiction books, magazines and other reading materials to be placed in the libraries,” informs Shrestha.
Shrestha and his team will be leaving for Karnali on August 17 to handover the collected books. Around 4, 500 books have been collected so far. The organizers urge everyone to help in this humanitarian effort and contribute to the education of the students in Karnali who mainly come from low-income families.
Books can be dropped at the Kathmandu Academy, Sano Gaucharan while the organizers are also willing to pick them up.
