Donate your precious blood Wednesday, June 29, at Alka Hospital in Ekanta Kuna in Patan. Hamro Chahana Nepal (HCN), in coordination with Alka Hospital, is organizing a blood donation program on HCN’s third anniversary. [break]
The donation drive comes at a time when the need escalates, especially during holidays and summer months.
People are more apt to be traveling and active during these times, and thus are at an increased risk of accidents.
Statistics show that 25 percent or more of us will require blood at least once in our lifetime, and no matter how advanced the modern science has become, they still have no alternative or substitute for blood in the human body.
The majority of people, who are in good health and aged 17 to 65, can donate blood every16weeks.
The average adult has about 10 pints of blood in his body. Roughly, one pint is given during a donation drive, which can go on to save at least three people who need it.

And if your blood type is O-Negative, then the stakes are even higher for it can be given to people of all blood types.
It’s needed in emergencies before the patient’s blood type is known, and with newborns who need blood.
It’s likely that you’ve seen pictures or read news of how, say, a three-month-old child died in some hospital because there was no blood that matched hers, and the doctors could do nothing and felt bad.
Not to let such misfortunes happen ever again, this is one of those chances to give yourself the pride to say, “I’ve donated blood. I helped.”
Blood can’t be manufactured. It can only come as a gift from people. So give blood. Give life a chance! Spread the word!
The program will take place from 9 am onwards at Alka Hospital, Ekanta Kuna.
