To provide a platform for upcoming bands, musicians, singers, and songwriters, Shirish Dali, vocalist of Albatross, has initiated “The Epitome Project.”

The project is being promoted through www.themusicfoundry.org, and has been submitted to www.good.is in order to compete for their US$5,000 campaign.[break]

The campaign proposes that the receiver of most votes within 20 days will be eligible for the sponsor.

So far, the project has already made it to the number one spot among the 146 ideas that have been submitted.

“Usually, new bands find it hard to get a platform. Even live bands who perform in restaurants find it hard to sustain themselves if they fail to pull in crowds. It’s also hard for them to find sponsors. So this project is for upcoming musicians like them,” says Dali.

He mentions that among those who have applied for, they will be picking up three bands who will be working for three months.

The Project will have them perform two live shows a month per band and every month the bands will have to come up with one original Nepali song, as per the criteria of the contract. The Epitome Project will thus have nine original songs.

The project will result in 18 quality live shows in Kathmandu in the next three months without having to depend on any sponsors.

“The bands will be paid a monthly stipend as well as receive good exposures,” says Dali.

“To start any kind of project, proper fund is required. So the main reason for applying for the campaign is for sustainability. If this project is a success, we’re planning to expand it and give it continuity by organizing similar events four times a year,” he adds.

Dali is also in the process of registering The Music Foundry as a non-profit organization in the US in order to be eligible to receive grants in the future.

The competition is open to all and will have an audition under a selection process based on the quality of the participants’ music and their commitment.

The deadline to participate in the project is June 27.
