Tharu banda cripples life in west Terai districts

DHANGADI, March 14: Normal life has been crippled in Kailali and Kanchanpur due to banda called by United Tharu Struggle Committee on Wednesday.



Transportation has come to a grinding halt due to the strike in Bardiya, Banke, Kailali and Kanchanpur among other places. Hundreds of passengers have been stranded on the roads. [break]



All market places, shops, factories and academic institution have been closed due to the agitation. The strike has been enforced accusing the government of trying to erase the identity of the Tharus.



According to reports, the strike has also been called demanding legal recognition to Matawa, Badghar and Bhalmansa tradition prevalent among Tharu communities for sustainable development of the village.



The committee has demanded representation of Badgharala elected from Tharu community to the local bodies.
