KATHMANDU, June 11: The health of former prime minister and Chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) Surya Bahadur Thapa has improved further Monday following implantation of a pacemaker planted in his chest at the Norvic International Hospital Sunday morning.

“He is much better and is fully conscious now. We even made him sit on a chair today,” Chief of the Cardiology Department at the hospital Dr Bharat Rawat, who along with Dr Nagendra Chouhan from Medanta-The Med City of Gurgaon, India had inserted the pacemaker on Sunday, said. [break]

"He is eating normally and has not developed any damage to heart or brain due to the cardiac arrest,” Dr Rawat added. He stated that the advanced double-chambered pacemaker will work for at least 10 years. “He survived because he was brought to hospital on time and due to his tremendous will power,” he said.

Thapa, who served as prime minister six times, suffered a cardiac arrest while attending a joint meeting of RJP and Rastriya Prajantantra Party (RPP) at his party office in Naxal Saturday morning.
