KATHMANDU, Oct 23: Unopposed to lead the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) for a sixth term, ANFA President Ganesh Thapa was busy wooing candidates to support an unopposed committee of the football governing body until late Wednesday. The electoral general assembly of ANFA is scheduled for Thursday in the capital.

Numerous aspirants have filed candidacies for vice-presidents and members. President, vice-president and member are the only posts in the ANFA executive committee to be decided through election. [break]

Altogether 22 aspirants have filed candidacies for four vice-presidents and 37 for 11 members of the 17-member body. A member´s post reserved for women will be decided later.

However, by late Wednesday evening, Thapa and his supporters have convinced most of the candidates to go for an unopposed committee.

According to reliable sources, Thapa has been successful in wooing the aspirants to support old faces -- Lalit Krishna Shrestha, Karma Chhiring Sherpa, Kishor Rai and Bijay Narayan Manandhar -- for vice-presidents. Similarly, most of the old faces are likely to be reelected as ANFA members.

However, the candidacies were filed without following the FIFA guidelines, which calls for election of 17-member executive committee. As per ANFA statute, the executive committee should comprise 39 members, including eight nominated officials. But they were informed about the guidelines only after the deadline set for filing candidacy expired.
